Internship Summary & Purpose:
If you are a hard-working, detail-oriented visionary looking to gain experience in social media marketing and communications for a non-profit arts organization, we want you to have the opportunity to support and be mentored by our President & CEO and the creative & marketing team! You will be involved in planning, compiling, and creating content for social media and coordinating marketing campaigns to engage the community and spread awareness of West Valley Arts’ (WVA) events, programs, and the Arts HQ Gallery.

You will gain experience in and learn to:

● Collaborate with the creative & marketing teams in preparing and creating engaging written and graphical content that cohesively and consistently upholds WVA’s branding and mission.
● Create and maintain a social media calendar for posts, newsletters, video blogs, artists and program spotlights.
● Plan and analyze marketing strategies to maintain engagement with current audience and to broaden outreach and presence to gain new followers across the Valley.
● Utilize Various social media platforms effectively to meet marketing and branding goals: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google Business, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok.
● Utilize a variety of graphic design and marketing applications: Canva; Mailchimp; Later platform, and Adobe Photoshop

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the President & CEO, you will assist in:

● Collaborating with creative and marketing teams to cull, create, and present engaging content to disseminate updated information, promote events, exhibitions, and programs, and broaden WVAC outreach and presence.
● Uploading and posting content on social media platforms.
● Monitoring all social media platforms for trending news, ideas, and feedback
● Planning, managing, and analyzing the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and strategies, including analyzing website traffic.
● Planning and maintaining our social media calendar with the creative and marketing teams.
● Providing the website team the content needed to update website (new information, upcoming events, photos, videos, graphics, sponsor logos), testing links, and ensuring information and branding is consistent with social media marketing
● Planning, coordinating, and hosting marketing events.
● Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

● Familiarity and capability using social media applications and platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Business, YouTube, TikTok, Later or similar (ex: Hootsuite)
● Able to assist with and create marketing content
● Have a reasonably flexible work schedule (ex: after business hours or Saturdays for events)
● Adept in multitasking and ability to take initiative
● Hardworking and dedicated outlook
● Experience with content creation a plus, even if not professionally
● Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Must have a passion for marketing

Minimum Requirements:
● Must be currently enrolled EMCC student
● Must have completed at least one semester at MCCCD or show previous internship experience
● Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
● Must complete 80 hours of internship work

Work Hours:

● Any day (Monday – Saturday) and anytime between 9am -8pm
● 5-15 hours per week, depending on needs and your availability.
● Working conditions will be on site and remote.

Internship information:

● Internship adheres to FLSA guidelines
● Internship can be counted towards fulfilling one related undergraduate or graduate course credits
● Internship will be one semester long; preference is for intern to commit to two semesters
● Stipend of $500 at the end of internship (per semester)
