Job Description - Student Intern, Occupational Safety & Health
Position Description
Tucson Electric Power, one of Arizona’s leading utility companies, seeks an individual for the position of Student Intern in the Corporate Safety Department. This position will supplement the Corporate Safety Department staff and offer work experience to the successful candidate.
This internship requires on-site work at our Irvington (Tucson, AZ) location. Successful candidates will be pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health, or similar, and be available to work 15-20 hours during the school year, and up to 40 hours during school breaks.
Position-Related Responsibilities
Contribute to the creation of safety materials, presentations, and manuals.
Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Assist in maintaining accurate safety records and documentation.
Assist with integration of the company ergonomic programs.
Assist with industrial hygiene program activities.
Conduct research on emerging safety trends, technologies, and best practices.
Assist with planning and coordination of company safety-related events.
Qualifications
Pursuing a degree (Bachelor or greater) in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field with an expected graduation date of May 2025 or later.
Must be able to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week during the school year, and up to 40 hours a week during the summer and school breaks.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with diverse groups.
Possess functional knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.
Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Completed coursework in Safety, Ergonomics, and Industrial Hygiene is preferred.
Valid Driver’s license.
Requirements
Must be able to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week during the school year; and up to 40 hours a week during the summer and school breaks
Student Interns must maintain the required hours for full-time student status, good academic standing at their college or university, as defined by the college or university and the GPA required for graduation by their college or university.
Failure to maintain full-time status, good academic standing and/or the requisite GPA will result in Student Interns being deemed ineligible for participation in this program.
Student Interns are employed on a temporary basis and are generally not eligible for some benefits; including vacation and holiday pay.
Scheduling of work hours and assignments should be made taking into consideration that Student Interns are students first and employees second.
Pay Rate: $16.00/hour + Depending on year in school
