Hiring Pay Range: $17.00 to $19.75 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime)

Some weekend and evening hours may be required

Essential Duties:

Duties as Forestry Crew Worker include fuel reduction and hazard mitigation within the Prescott Fire Wise Community. Duties may entail brush clearing under adverse conditions related to climate and terrain. May be required to assist in snow removal according to snow response policy and procedures. Utilizing a variety of specialized tools, equipment, and techniques on fuels management projects. Tools experience may include chain saw, Pulaski, shovel, McLeod, rake, and other custom tools, brush chipper, and pole saw. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required. Candidate of choice must pass pre-employment drug test and extensive criminal background check and have/maintain drivers license throughout duration of employment. Preferred, but not required, possession of CDL Class A, and coursework in Forestry and/or Community Risk Reduction relevant to fuels management. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of accepted safety practices and procedures to prevent injury.
Knowledge of fuel mitigation management techniques, methods, and conditions.
Knowledge and skill in the use of hand tools and chainsaws.
Knowledge and skill of standard first aid procedures
Knowledge and skill in both oral and written communication to effectively interact with people at all levels, internal and external to the organization, including the public.
Knowledge of fuels management principles and creation of defensible space and fuel breaks.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Arduous. Duties involve rigorous field work requiring above average physical performance, endurance, and superior conditioning. Work requires prolonged standing, walking over uneven ground, recurring bending, stretching, reaching, lifting, and carrying items over 50 pounds for possibly long distances in possibly adverse weather and temperatures.

Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicles as needed.

Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:
