**Schedule:** 4 10/hr shifts however some work 5 8/hr shifts- Variable start and end times dependent on department needs. Lab is open 5am-8pm. Call is roughly 3 days a month, 2 week night shifts and one weekend day/night. Holiday call is 1 major and 1 minor

**Locations:** Sonographers are required to work at all three locations, Banner University Medical Center North, South and Main Campus.

**1 year experience preferred but open to New Grads, must have completed a cardiovascular program**

**Procedures:** Sonographers must know/willing to learn and perform TEEs, stress echoes, dobutamine stress echoes, start IVs, administer contrast and bubble studies and image in a variety of settings, including OR, Cath lab, ICU and outpatient clinics. There is a small degree of phone answering and disk burning required of staff. Quality and patient care is our first priority.

We are an academic facility, so we work closely with attending cardiologists and train fellow, residents and student sonographers how to perform echoes. Most sonographers in our lab are either teaching or learning, or both all the time! BUMCT is a large hospital with almost 700 beds and South Campus is a smaller hospital, with around 220, so our sonographers have the opportunity to work in a mix of settings. This is a comprehensive echo position, and as a sonographer you will have the opportunity to do all of the cool things you learned about in school. Our partnership with the physicians and fellows makes a really fun learning environment.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position, acting as a specialized ultrasound technologist, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in patients, playing a central role in detecting issues related to the heart, including heart malfunctions and in supporting the physicians as they develop diagnosis and treatment plans.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers’ orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Oversees Heart Clinic echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of performance. Accountable for the oversight and application of scanning protocols and quality measures, following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.

2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.

3. Performs high quality images and presents them for timely interpretation, ensuring accurate documentation. Performs exams and imaging duties by providing preliminary clinical findings to the supervising physicians. Also provides valuable and timely preliminary findings to the Cardiologists or Cardiac surgeons.

4. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies.

5. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.

6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services. Performs high level disinfecting in accordance with manufacturers and regulatory policies and procedures.

8. Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for the Cardiology or Cardiovascular department. May act as a clinical resource to staff and students, as well as train new staff and students in sonographic techniques, with focus on the echocardiographic laboratory. May provide echocardiographic related education to Banner Health staff and cardiac sonography students. May assess student competency and provide feedback to department leadership.

9. Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance of professional scope of practice, accreditation and regulatory standards, Joint Commission and Title 22. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program.

Requires national certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer. Uncertified new hires who are Registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. BLS certification required.

This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with one to two years of clinical experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Adult Echo experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
