About the Department/College

The Department of Educational Psychology is housed in the College of Education and offers the Combined Counseling/School Psychology Ph.D. program, a School Psychology Ed.S. program, master's programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Counseling - Student Affairs, and Human Relations; and a bachelor's program in Applied Human Behavior. Faculty in the department work collaboratively to support student learning across programs.

About the Position

The Department of Educational Psychology at Northern Arizona University is hiring for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of School Psychology faculty position beginning Fall 2025, with the potential for a second position. We are interested in candidates with a passion for high-quality teaching, research, mentorship, and supervision at the graduate level, to serve students in the School Psychology Ed.S. and Combined Counseling/School Psychology Ph.D. programs. The successful candidate will pursue a research agenda in an area of contemporary importance to School Psychology; will mentor graduate students on research; and will teach graduate level School Psychology courses aligned to their expertise.

The Ed.S. program at NAU is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The Ph.D. program is one of four APA-accredited Combined Counseling/School Psychology programs in the United States. NAU's Department of Educational Psychology grounds itself in the foundations of inclusive excellence; and we expect candidates for the Assistant Professor of School Psychology position to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of developmental, psychological, and learning theories, general and special education, and legal, ethical, and professional standards of practice; and professional competency in assessment, prevention, intervention, counseling and consultation with family, school and community professionals.

Responsibilities Include:

• Teach graduate level courses and develop curriculum in areas of expertise
• Supervise school psychology practicum and internships, and coordinate with community partners on student field placements
• Advise and mentor graduate students in our Ed.S. and Ph.D. programs
• Mentor graduate students on research, including dissertations
• Maintain a research portfolio in line with tenure-track faculty requirements
• Participate in relevant institutional and professional service

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Full time, tenure-track eligible faculty position, starting Fall 2025.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in School Psychology or closely related field; candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the degree is completed by start of appointment.
• AZ School Psychologist certification, or eligibility and plan to obtain by start date.
• Eligible for AZ psychologist licensure.
• University level teaching experience; may include experience as a graduate teaching assistant.
• Emerging or established research portfolio representative of a School Psychology professional identity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in School Psychology.
• Holds AZ Psychologist Licensure.
• Graduate of an APA accredited and/or NASP certified program.
• Demonstrated success in teaching and service in a university setting, including instruction, supervision and mentoring.
• Research agenda aligned to an area of contemporary importance to the field of School Psychology with promise for external funding.
• Experience working in the areas of multi-tier systems of support, prevention, intervention, consultation, and special education evaluation and services for P12 students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
• Experience and success in fostering and creating collaborative, inclusive, and supportive learning and working environment.
• Experience with and demonstrated interested in bilingual/multilingual school psychology (multiple language proficiency not required).

• Manages multiple projects with multiple deadlines while meeting or exceeding expectations.
• Communicates ideas and information effectively in both verbal and written form.
• Knowledge of local and national training and licensing requirements and ability to guide our students through the process.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range begins at $70,000.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the https://nau.edu/university-policy-library/conditions-of-faculty-service/. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election. FLSA Status
