North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Hazardous waste technician supports the installation waste management program by accepting and delivering waste containers, performing waste pickups at various sites on base and accurately documenting all hazardous material/waste to be placed in the custody of the Hazardous Waste Management facility, applying knowledge of RCRA, TSCA and other federal and state waste regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Perform initial waste determination
+ Inspect, handle containerize, load/unload, and transport hazardous waste and materials
+ Ensure adequate storage of hazardous waste to include condition and marking containers
+ Interpret safety data sheets
+ Understand and follow the compatibility of chemicals
+ Operate motorized vehicles and equipment, trucks, forklifts, drum and bulb crusher, extinguisher evac system
+ Update waste logs and records
+ General warehouse operations and labor
+ Provide excellent customer service and client relations
+ Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
+ Have good communication skills and follow orders efficiently
+ Acquire and maintain all required training to perform duties
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Organization and housekeeping of warehouse and yard
+ Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Project Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
+ Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
+ At least 1 year experience handling or managing RCRA-related waste
Skills and Abilities:
+ General computer skills
+ Ability to safely perform physical labor, including stooping, kneeling, lifting, walking, carrying, etc.
Special Requirements:
+ Site and job-specific instruction on safety
+ Possess a valid driver's license
+ Employment is contingent on passing a background check to obtain access to military installation
+ Must successfully pass an initial medical evaluation
Possess or be able to obtain certification immediately upon employment:
+ OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (40-hour HAZWOPER), OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher)
+ 40 CFR 265 (RCRA), 40 CFR 265 (8-Hour RCRA Refresher)
+ 49 CFR 172 H (DOT HAZMAT Transportation), 49 CFR 172 H (DOT HAZMAT Transportation Refresher)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ 40-hour HAZWOPER
+ 40-hour RCRA
+ Forklift operation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
+ Must be able to perform physical labor including kneeling, standing, walking, lifting 50 lbs or over
+ Must be able to wear PPE as necessary, including respirators and Tyvek suits on occasion.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
+ The position will require work to be performed indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
