**This position is ideal for an active duty fire based EMS provider.**
**Work schedule is fire friendly (20 hours per week, hybrid work with variable work schedule) and will allow an individual with interest in EMS education to develop skills and knowledge that will prompt their career.**
Banner University Medical Group is our nonprofit faculty practice plan associated with the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine in Phoenix and Tucson. POSITION SUMMARY
This position assists in the coordination of educational activities, quality monitoring functions, and Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Management responsibilities of the Base Hospital Program. Works independently to ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, resources, Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) rules and regulations, Southeast Arizona EMS Regional standards, and other specifications.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Assists in the development and evaluation of quality outcome reports within the Base Hospital Program. Assists in identification of appropriate indicators to monitor. Assists with the collection of data for select projects or indicators. Remains alert to quality and safety trends. Monitors the effectiveness of QI projects and/or new procedures. Remains alert to Risk Management issues, and notifies supervisor as appropriate. Assists with auditing EMS provider and medical direction staff performance through medical record review and audio recordings.
2. Works with Base Hospital and disaster teams to coordinate and present pre-hospital and disaster education programs to EMS providers and hospital medical direction authority staff. Assists with the planning and coordination of EMS and disaster education to all levels of pre-hospital providers and medical direction staff. Plans and assists in coordinating EMS conferences or educational events. Uses appropriate teaching strategies, including the use of the principles of adult education.
3. Supports the collection of prehospital research and performance data. Demonstrates an advanced understanding of prehospital and disaster management. Recognizes breakdowns in the system of care delivery for prehospital care and disaster situations. Assists and supports the Base Hospital Manager in issue resolution. Assists in the development of local and regional EMS protocols/guidelines/standing orders and other procedures in coordination with the Base Hospital leadership team.
4. Actively participates in processes designed to improve EMS system outcomes. Assists in the development and/or revision of patient care protocols and policies to improve prehospital care delivery and disaster management. Assists with the development of necessary staff education for EMS providers and medical direction staff on new or revised policies/protocols/procedures. Assists with the coordination of various Base Hospital performance improvement initiatives.
5. Assists the Base Hospital Manager with other program activities. Maintains expertise in pre-hospital care and disaster management by attending regional and national conferences, networking with peers, and reading journals. Serves as a member of the Base Hospital Program management team. Establishes and accomplishes professional goals jointly developed with the Base Hospital Manager. Conducts/attends meetings and publishes minutes as identified by Base Hospital Manager. Fosters and promotes valuable professional relationships among customers.
6. Works independently to ensure coordination of activities related to the Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Management responsibilities of the Base Hospital Program. Works independently to ensure that the goals and objectives of the program are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, resources, and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) rules and regulations, Southeast Arizona EMS Regional standards, and other specifications. Interacts with facility personnel, members of the community and the Arizona Department of Health Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and either Emergency Medical Technician with state licensure, or EMT National registry certification.
Minimum of five years pre-hospital experience to include responsibilities in leadership, quality improvement and education is preferred. Ability to present information clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form. Strong computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, presentation, and graphical software. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
National Registry (NREMT-P) certification preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
