Proposal Solutions Eng - BESS - Energy Controls, is a key member of the Battery Energy Storage Solutions Vertical at Honeywell Process Solutions, and reports to the Global Technical Solutions Manager – BESS. This role is primarily responsible for the technical scope required to develop microgrid, microgrid controls and energy management systems proposals, including proposals related to battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The role focuses on the evolving changes in technologies and practices in the renewable energy industry, such as hybrid systems (solar photovoltaic (PV) and BESS), advanced SCADA controls, demand management, load control, advanced inverter controls, and energy storage systems.
This role is one of three subject matter experts in a global team, and is focused on microgrid controls and electrical SCADA, supporting the development of Honeywell’s Battery Energy Storage Solutions business in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This role guides and mentors project and technology teams on microgrids, microgrid controls and energy management systems including energy storage systems and solutions. The Technical Solutions Consultant II, Energy Controls, is responsible for benchmarking and evaluating new technologies or new offerings from suppliers to integrate into our solutions.
Key Areas of Responsibility
+ Understand the energy markets in the APAC region and advise on the business cases for energy storage projects in the various countries in America, both behind the meter and front of the meter
+ Collaborate with the other team members in the preparation and coordination of proposals, requests for information, and other marketing efforts
+ Responsible for the technical review and understanding of the customer’s requirements in their requests for proposals including system designs, single line drawings, single line drawings, microgrids and microgrid controls, etc.
+ Responsible for the development of the response to proposals related to turnkey controls schemes (analyze specifications, price all applicable labor and materials, write a proposed scope of work, etc.)
+ Ensure proposed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles as they relate to specifically to renewable energy systems, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV (photovoltaic), EV charging stations, power systems, and microgrids; follow customers specifications and internal specifications for project implementation
+ Serve as a microgrid controls subject matter expert, providing both technical guidance and mentoring to technology and project teams in the development and deployment of complex power and control schemes including load shedding / peak shaving schemes utilizing multiple distributed energy resources, microgrid operations, breaker control schemes, SCADA system development, etc.
+ Assist with factory testing and field start-ups as required.
+ Collaborate with hardware / firmware / software engineers to develop models and enable model-based code development, including hardware-in-the-loop testing and simulation scenarios
+ Experience integrating and developing hardware, software, and controls for grid-connected renewable power systems and/or microgrids

The salary range for this position is $92,900 - $139,200. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.

MUST HAVE:
+ Three to five plus years of related technical experience, particularly in the delivery electrical controls projects such as battery energy storage, microgrids and microgrid controls applications
+ Prior experience in a solar PV projects or microgrids an asset
WE VALUE:
+ B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
+ Experience and solid understanding of microgrids, renewable energy integration and battery energy storage systems & microgrid controls, energy management systems, and electrical SCADA applications
+ Knowledge of applicable renewable and electrical codes and standards IEEE, 1547, NERC-CIP requirements, IEC61850, Sunspec, MESA standards, and LGIA requirements
+ Knowledge of various control schemes (frequency, voltage, VARS, Ride-through, etc.), protection schemes, and regulatory requirements pertaining to grid operations
+ Working knowledge of utility industry communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC61580); SEL RTAC programming experience a plus
+ Experience troubleshooting microgrid control systems that are not functioning properly.
+ Experience with grid simulation studies and test software to ensure microgrid controls solutions meet customer requirements
+ Capable of programming using function blocks, SQL, Visual Basic, C, C++, C#, or equivalent
+ Experienced with hybrid power projects feasibility study and implementation using tools such as Excel, Homer and / or Matlab and simulation result interpretation
