Job Description
Chemical Applicator OR The Chemical Applicator, Senior:
Works under the general direction of the Facility Services Landscape and Outdoor Services (LOS) Assistant Manager. Participates in the safe and timely applications of chemicals to plants, trees and grass to enhance plant growth and control weeds and pests within the limits of laws and labels and with the interest of safety in the university environment. The successful candidate will be required to work 6:00am to 3:00pm - Monday through Friday. Summer schedule may have some flexibility. This position is classified as essential and is a first responder on an on-call basis for snow removal operations. University employees are responsible for maintaining the highest ethical standards of conduct and are expected to practice integrity, trustworthiness, respect, stewardship, compliance, confidentiality, professionalism and respect to maintain a safe and trusting environment.
Chemical Application 60%
• Within assigned section of campus, applies chemicals to plants, trees, and grass to enhance plant growth and control weeds and pests.
• Operates equipment to spray, dust, and/or spread various chemicals and other designated materials including pesticides, herbicides, soil sterilant, grass killer, hormones, fertilizers, seeds, and specified soil amendments.
• Performs daily maintenance on equipment; may be required to perform minor repairs on application equipment.
• Mixes or dilutes specified chemicals or materials according to written directions and applies them as recommended.
• Schedules pest and weed control applications.
Landscaping / Snow Removal - 30%
• Responsible for lawn maintenance including mowing, verticutting, seeding, aerifying, fertilizing, and topdressing; maintains irrigation systems and coordinates irrigation schedules.
• Responsible for the maintenance of flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, and planting areas including trimming, pruning, and watering.
• May be required to help with removal of litter
• Operates and maintains hand tools
• Responsible for completion of various landscaping projects.
• Assists in trapping pests such as gophers, skunks and feral cats.
• Provide superior customer service to the campus community.
• Responsible for initiating measures to improve customer service within the area, LOS, and Facility Services.
• Takes a proactive role in promoting and supporting Facility Services mission and vision.
• Receives and responds to inquiries from campus members regarding LOS operations.
• Records time and materials for customer billing.
• Completes assigned work orders.
• Operates tail gates and/or platforms to facilitate loading and unloading of materials.
• Operates forklift as needed
• Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, tires, washing and cleaning equipment and adding fluids.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Minimum Qualifications
Chemical Applicator
• High school degree
• 1-2 years of chemical applications experience or other relevant experience
• Must obtain a Pesticide Applicator License with the State Structural and Ornamental Turf Pest Control Board (AZ Restricted Use Pesticide Certificate) within 6 months.
• Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver's license.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

• 2-4 years of chemical applications experience or other relevant experience.
• Must Possess a Pesticide Applicator License with the State Structural and Ornamental Turf Pest Control Board (AZ Restricted Use Pesticide Certificate).

Driving Requirement
Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Salary

Salary range begins at $45,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
The Chemical Applicator and the Chemical Applicator, Senior positions are non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
