Course: Design Thinking

This survey course introduces students to basic design thinking, including principles and elements of design, and concepts of composition. This course includes reading, writing, and lab assignments and requires the creation and exhibition of student artwork. Technology requirement: Students are responsible for providing their own laptop that is capable of running the Adobe Creative Cloud.

What You Will Do:

+ Facilitate classroom lecture and discussions while incorporating innovative teaching strategies

+ Engage students in cutting-edge technologies and industry trends

+ Assess student performance and mentor classroom success to prepare them for their chosen career path

+ Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University

What You Will Bring:

+ Minimum: Bachelors degree in communication arts, graphic design, illustration, animation, fine arts, art education or other related discipline.

+ Preferred: Masters degree and 3 or more years’ experience in the design industry.

+ A grasp of Design Thinking processes, creative brief creation, color theory, principles of composition, typographical layout, drawing and rapid visualization in traditional media is required. Facility in fundamentals of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Behance is required. Job titles that fit the criteria: Graphic Designer, Art Director, Creative Director, Illustrator.
