Summary This position is located in the Nutrition Services Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Activities are directed toward coordination of the nutrition services with other program services to achieve the goal of elevating the physical status of the American Indian/Alaskan Native to an optimum state through adequate nutrition. This position reports to the Health Chief of Nutrition Services. Responsibilities **This position is being announced concurrently under Delegated Examining Plan (DE) procedures. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Develops long-range plans and objectives concerning nutrition and dietetic services that are needed by the ambulatory patients and their families as well as the outlying communities served by PIMC. Prepares nutritional educational plans for supporting nutritional requirements. Asses nutritional habits, food, food purchasing practices and resources for purchasing food availability to client/communities and plans appropriate nutrition therapy for a variety of disease states and for the prevention of disease. Assists with development, implementation and updating policies and procedures for ambulatory nutrition services, in cooperation with other members of the health care team. Reviews, selects, or develops suitable educational and counseling materials on normal and Therapeutic nutrition for use by professional and paraprofessional staff providing services to patients and community members. Individual Occupational Requirements BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicant must meet one of the following requirements for all grade levels: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist(RDN). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0630-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conducting and evaluating nutritional assessments; formulating a nutrition diagnosis, developing a nutrition intervention inclusive of education and counseling, and identifying nutrition evaluation and monitoring metrics. OR Completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-09 grade level. (Transcripts Required for this option) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0630-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Conducting and evaluating nutritional assessments; formulating a nutrition diagnosis, developing a nutrition intervention inclusive of education and counseling, and identifying nutrition evaluation and monitoring metrics; providing nutrition consultation to other health care team members; developing and implementing group nutrition classes; performing diabetes education. OR Possess at least (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a P.D. degree OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
