Smyth Industries Engineering Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a CAD Shop Detailer/Drafter to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in the water and reclamation industry by:
SCOPE: Under minimum supervision, creates engineering drawings and designs, and often specializes in a specific branch of engineering, like mechanical, architectural, structural, aerospace, or civil. The Detailer/Drafter’s primary focus is on the water and reclamation construction industry . Support and adhere to Smyth Industries Policies and Procedures, Safety Compliance, and Values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Preparing both rough sketches and detailed work with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
+ Translate conceptual ideas into formal designs by utilizing your expertise in design principles, materials, and fabrication techniques.
+ Follow guidance from a team of engineers, engineering technicians and other leaders while effectively managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks efficiently.
+ Create shop drawings and designs for production and manufacturing.
+ Create design specifications, documentation, and material lists.
+ Prepare complete project documentation packages for engineers and clients.
+ Verify drawings are correct to specifications, codes, and other regulations.
+ Liaise with engineers and clients to gather product and structural requirements and designs.
+ Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
+ Describe production methods step-by-step (including equipment and software types to be used)
+ Create detailed shop drawings with CAD software in 2D & 3D.
+ Make revisions on a model based on customer requirements.
+ Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow or fabrication and installation.
+ Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
+ Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards.
+ May create manuals that describe existing products’ operation, features, and maintenance.
+ Find out customer requirements by speaking to them.
+ Compute mathematical formulas to find the correct dimensions.
+ Coordinate with other teams to ensure the model and drawings are correct.
+ Create preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis.
+ Estimate material and production costs.
+ Develop standardized models and drawings of products.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering required or equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of experience shop drawings / detailing required .
+ Experience in welding/fabrication project management with a good understanding of how other trades impact the work scope and scheduling of the shop teams.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects varying in size and complexity required.
+ Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
+ Responsible for understanding and following ASME codes and standards, audits, inspections, record keeping and ensuring recertification.
+ Ability to facilitate troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts and team meetings.
+ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
+ Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook).
+ Pass a preemployment drug screening.
+ Possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.
+ Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.
+ Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment.
+ Be comfortable frequently working at heights while following all necessary safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Strong knowledge in water and reclamation construction.
+ Position is highly visible to potential customers and requires the ability to influence/persuade. Understand the sales process and be able to close sales.
+ Speak Spanish
+ Experience using Procore Construction Manager software.
