**Summary**

I & C Specialist Trainee (Instrument & Controls) duties are: Satisfactory completion of all Instrument Specialist training objectives to allow for promotion to the Specialist position. The Instrument Specialist Trainee will be involved in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting all instrumentation related to the specific facility. The degree of these maintenance functions will vary among facilities and are not necessarily listed in the duties below, but are expected of this position. In addition to Instrumentation duties, there are varying levels of maintenance and operations tasks dictated by the requirements of the various facilities.

Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

**What You'll Do**

+ Instrument Specialist Trainee learns to install analyze, calibrate and repair indicating, recording, transmitting and control devices.

+ Trainee learns to troubleshoot system controls and related malfunctions in various analog and digital devices including DCS & PLC systems.

+ Trainee learns to utilize available documentation, drawings and schematics to identify and troubleshoot problems.

+ Trainee learns to assemble wires, insulation, and electrical components as necessary to support instruments and controls.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to perform preventive maintenance and provides feedback on follow up work and program improvement.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to perform job layout utilizing prints, drawings, etc.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to competently and responsibly use hand and power tools.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to operate forklifts, hoists, mobile and gantry cranes.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to perform necessary rigging in connection with assigned duties.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to handle and dispose of hazardous materials and waste according to laws and regulations.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to efficiently use computer technology to operate work management systems to access work orders, input historical data, report time and order parts.

+ Trainee is responsible for learning how to use computer technology to troubleshoot and program equipment.

+ Other duties as assigned.

+ Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

**What It Takes To Succeed**

Must be at least 18 years of age.

**Experience**

Minimum of three years as an O&M III (Operations Primary) or Operations Specialist or equivalent skills and knowledge.

**Education**

High School, GED or Equivalent.

**Testing and Certifications**

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

Physical Agility Test

Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
