Special Information
• This position is posted as Assistant Director, Peer Jacks Mentoring, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Assistant Director, Student Life Experience.

Job Description
This position supervises a dynamic team that provides services and support to assist students in their development at the university through the integration of academic learning and individual growth and aims to ensure meaningful and purposeful experiences and interactions that foster a successful path towards graduation. Peer Jacks Mentoring is a high impact Student Affairs program with a team that is composed of student staff, graduate assistants and professional staff that serves a diverse population of first year students.
Program Management - 30%
• Supervises daily operations and coordinates program activities working with staff to prioritize and delegate work activities.
• Manages allocated Peer Jacks budget, advises direct reports in relation to budget management and works with director to project future budget needs for program.
• Develops and facilitates workshops, meetings or conferences with high impact on program and/or participants.
• Develops and coordinates the creation/maintenance of an annual event program calendar.
• Establishes and maintains working relationships with university departments to provide peer mentor programming and increase student persistence through programming.
• Develops curriculum to meet student learning outcomes for off-campus fieldtrip excursions and programming in line with Peer Jacks mission and vision.
• Actively develops inclusive activities to reflect the diversity of the campus community.
Program Development - 25%
• Provides direct oversight and strategic leadership to the Peer Jacks Mentoring Program
• Regularly identifies opportunities for change or improvement
• Solves complex programmatic and staffing concerns
• Exercises autonomy in Assessment/Evaluation to measure performance outputs and student learning outcomes
• Conducts needs assessment of program evaluating growth and mentor performance
• Collects participant data and prepare reports to evaluate program effectiveness
• Evaluates and compares program data on student persistence, and academic achievement
• Develops and implements new or revised program goals and objectives
• Evaluates program effectiveness and implements improved methods: devises evaluation methodology and implements; analyzes results and takes proper action bases on outcome.
Supervision - 20%
• Manages the hiring process for coordinators and Graduate Assistants.
• Supervises a team of full-time coordinators.
• Leads bi-weekly one on one meetings with coordinators to direct planning and program organization.
• Develops and implements supervision curriculum for bi-weekly, one-on-one meetings and weekly all staff meetings.
• Understands employee regulations and policies and uses them to provides formal feedback to staff.
• Provides input related to employment decisions for the program.
• Creates and maintains a supportive, inclusive and culturally diverse environment for staff and participants.
Training - 15%
• Collaborates with director to develop and maintain current theory-based strategies for Student Affairs peer mentoring.
• Communicates directly with staff, stakeholders and other management positions to ensure training supports broader mentoring goals.
• Develops and initiates staff pre-service training, manuals, and ongoing in-service trainings with a focus on intercultural competencies to meet university standards.
• Remains current with Higher Education professional organizations' (NASPA and ACPA) standards and revises training as needed to stay updated with trends and meet the needs of the diverse student community we serve.
• Develops a specialized mentor training class curriculum.
Cross Divisional Duties - 5%
• Establishes and maintains productive working relationships across the SA Division.
• Exemplifies a positive image of Student Affairs programs through contacts with students, parents, faculty and staff.
• Participates as representative of Student Affairs Mentoring and encourages participation at university and community functions, events, and activities.
• Fosters partnerships with outside departments and agencies to enhance program quality and opportunities for staff and participants.
Administration - 5%
• Centrally distributes information and promotional literature such as newsletters, professional development opportunities, brochures, or event flyers.
• Ensures that data input is accurate, reviews and documents discrepancies with student meetings in appropriate databases (i.e. Salesforce, Louie).
• In collaboration with director, develops reports regarding student success related challenges.
• Manages and Troubleshoots cases and case distribution in student information systems (Salesforce).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Education, Behavioral Science or a related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• 2-4 years of management and supervisory experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Student Affairs/College Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or similar field AND five years of professional supervisorial experience at a higher education institution.
• Budgetary experience with staffing, programmatic and operational expenses.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience and philosophy.
• Created and maintained a team environment and displayed support of staff in developing relationships for long term growth and development of staff and department.
• Experience developing collaborations and partnerships in order to further the mission of Peer Jacks Mentoring.
• Experience understanding and implementing successful programs that support first year students in higher education.
• Experience with student development theory and working in higher education or similar environments.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of effective training and supervision principles related to professional staff and para-professional staff including student workers.
• Knowledge of and ability to communicate university policies and procedures.
• Knowledge and skills in effective event planning and implementation.
• Possess and implement excellent supervisory, organizational, and training skills.
• Sound organizational and administrative skills in relation to staff supervision, budget implementation, and program management.
• Possess experience in a university, student affairs' environment.
• Possess excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism aligned to NAU, Student Affairs' goals and outcomes.
• Ability to analyze problems and make well-reasoned, creative decisions.
• Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse, historically disadvantaged, and underrepresented populations.
• Proven record of developing and sustaining productive collegial relationships with colleagues, and on-and-off campus partners.
• Demonstrated experience with budget maintenance and implementation.
• Experience in assessing program effectiveness and understanding of outcomes in order to implement changes to address needs based on data and anecdotal information.

Salary
Salary range begins at $67,714. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
