Delta Dental Foundation of Arizona has awarded a multi-year grant to the Banner Health Foundation to support a new partnership called the HOPE Dental Program at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. The partnership will address the oral health of patients age 65 and older and adults with disabilities, with special consideration for vulnerable populations at high-risk patients for periodontal disease and who may be unable to connect to dental healthcare resources in the community. The Oral Hygienist will be mainly an educational role supporting the bedside staff and providing evidence based oral care. This role collaborates with numerous multidisciplinary teams. This is a highly collaborative and autonomous role, where great interpersonal and communications skills are of the utmost importance.

**Registry/Per Diem positions do not have guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package is offered** . Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (includes employment, criminal and education) is required. **Must have availability to work up to 40 hours per week based on program needs.**

POSITION SUMMARY

This position delivers oral health education and provides direct staff, patient, and family education. Provides support and training to clinical staff on dental principles, ADA recommendations and protocols. Works in coordination with staff to select and deliver current oral health education based on identified needs. Acts as subject matter expert for staff and patients. All activities are effectively designed and implemented using the organization's framework, policies, and protocols.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Provides initial oral health training to providers and staff at the hospital and equip oral health nurse navigator to continue training to new hires and provide ongoing training to providers and staff as needed/necessary.

2. Acts as subject matter expert for patients and staff.

3. Provides oral health education in their specialty area.

4. Educates and advises healthcare workers and patients on proper teeth, gum and oral care and the importance of diet in oral health.

5. Coordinates with multidisciplinary teams and participates in meetings. Interacts with physicians, residents, clinical and support staff.

6. Participates in Perfect Patient Experience (PPE) by attending to individual patient’s concerns within the scope of a Dental Hygienist role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

Arizona board licensed (RDH) Dental Hygienist (license through Arizona Board of Dental Examiners -BODEX) required. Requires BLS Certification.

Minimum of two to five years related experience required.

Knowledgeable and prior experience with oral health screenings, including conducting mouth and neck examinations, assessment of oral health conditions, and oral cancer screening. Individual should be comfortable and experienced developing curriculum, teaching, training, and working with students.

Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification for ACLS is preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
