• This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both the Flagstaff Mountain campus and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.

• This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Classified Staff layoff or recall status.

Job Description

The Comunidad, Cultura, y Conexion (C³) program at NAU is a five-year program funded through the U.S. Department of Education. The program seeks to increase student retention and access to postsecondary education. The program will coordinate holistic support services in areas of academics, community building, finances, and well-being for Hispanic and first-generation students through a cohort-based freshman and sophomore program with shared coursework, high impact practices, and wrap-around, coordinated services. To that end, C³ also provides training for faculty and staff while coordinating alignment of NAU's social, emotional, academic, and financial support services to better meet student needs through development of an advisory group focused on institutional policies and procedures.

We seek an Academic Success Coordinator for the C³ Program. Reporting to the C³ Program Manager, the Academic Success Coordinator will play a pivotal role in enhancing student success and retention by providing tailored academic support to C³ Scholars. This includes mentoring, coordinating community-building activities, and connecting students with essential resources to support their academic and professional development. The role is integral to promoting an inclusive and identity-affirming environment that aligns with the C³ Program's mission.

Student Support - 55%

• Develop, implement, and coordinate services provided by C³ program in coordination with NAU Academic Success Center.
• Assist in coordination and implementation of High Impact Practices (HIP) for program participants. Including first year seminar, collaborative assignments, diversity learning, service learning and tutoring services.
• Connect students with NAU resources, including academic success services, disability resources, individual and group tutoring services, supplemental instruction, etc.
• Work closely with academic advisors, faculty, and other support teams to provide wraparound services, and ensure the success and retention of C³ Scholars.
• Prepare periodic reports on the services of the C³ Leadership and Academic Success Center to maximize student retention
• Coordinates student events and support services.
• Serve as an academic mentor, resource, and advocate for C³ Scholars, providing guidance on academic, personal, and professional development.
• Serve as liaison for academic support services on campus.

Program Design and Administration - 20%

• Support annual recruitment of C³ scholars and Peer Mentors.
• Coordinate the processing of Academic Support Stipend for scholars.
• Support development of first year seminar for C³ scholars.
• Assist with implementing needs assessment for C³ scholars.
• Support peer mentors in delivering comprehensive academic tutoring services to support student's academic success.
• Support the development of the first-year seminar for C³ scholars.
• Collaborate with and support the Student Success Advisory Group.

Caseload Management - 20%

• Manage a caseload of C³ scholars, documenting and reporting on obstacles, success plans and overall persistence.
• Strategically utilize outreach lists to identify students who may be struggling and/or may benefit from additional support.
• Collaborate with the student's existing support team to determine the best course of action.
• Document and share interactions in university systems to ensure all support units have access to appropriate updates/status.
• Provide updates/reporting on the progress and challenges of the students within the caseload as needed.
• Ensure students follow up on service referrals and track their engagement with available support systems.
• Use assessments to help C³ students explore their interests, skills, and abilities.
• Assists C³ program with social media platforms.

Other - 5%

• Performs other duties as assigned in relation to departmental function.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's degree.
• 2 years of experience coordinating student events and support services.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Counseling, Education, Social Sciences or related field.
• Experience working with historically excluded students.
• Experience in case management.
• Ability to speak and write in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Knowledge of higher education law, including FERPA, Title IX, etc.
• Knowledge of counseling techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of issues relating to retention and graduation of students from historically excluded populations.
• Knowledge of financial aid processes.
• Develops and maintains good working relationships.
• Problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
• Strong verbal & written communication.
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated work experience with Hispanic & First-Generation students.
• Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.
• Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $53,000 - $55,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
