Job Description
Manages the activities of NAU's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance staff and ensures the effective and timely resolution of system repair issues affecting the campus community. Oversee the collection of HVAC repair plans to provide up-to-date and accurate information to senior management. Authorizes and processes changes to university HVAC systems and supervises employees responsible for maintenance and repair.
Leadership and Workload Management - 55%
• Establish and cultivate a culture based on the mission, vision, values of the university and the Facility Services department.
• Provide guidance, skill development, supervision, and day-to-day direction to the HVAC Team, consisting of NAU employees and a third-party vendor partner, in a fair, consistent, and equitable manner.
• Perform the day-to-day contract management of the NAU third-party HVAC vendor.
• Provide performance evaluations, goal setting, training plans, and performance management as needed to grow and develop each technician individually.
• Teach, guide, and influence all HVAC technicians in accordance with all NAU policies and procedures.
• Motivate technicians to always stay dedicated to safety, customer service, efficiency (time & money), and operational excellence.
• Manage technician time-off and schedule adjustments.
• Manage the workload and the scheduling of work efficiently, effectively, and fairly.
• Manage the shop's TMA Dashboard to provide accurate information and data to the department leadership and analytics team.
• Coordinate with other trades and outside vendors as needed.
• Communicate with customers to ensure transparency and high-quality customer service when needed.
• Function as the liaison between NAU HVAC, outside vendor HVAC, and Facility Services leadership providing critical information and collaboration as needed.
Field Operations - 25%
• Supervise, teach, guide, and assist teams in the field when needed.
• Inspect work to ensure the highest quality and consistency of work.
• Assist in the field as needed to complete challenging tasks or when the team is getting behind on their overall workload.
• Manage multiple technicians in the field during emergency or critical operations (example: flood, snow removal, etc.).
• Provide estimates as requested for HVAC related repairs and projects.
• Assist with the oversight and management of HVAC controls and diagnostic systems such as Willow, Alerton, Niagara, and Compass.
• Ensure that all mechanical rooms occupied are clean, organized, and fire code compliant in accordance with the Facility Service Fire Code Compliance SOP.
Budget, Finances, and Policy Management - 15%
• Manage the HVAC shop's State and Local budget responsibly.
• Review and ensure the accuracy of all state, local, and operating expenses regularly.
• Correct all budgetary errors or improper spending behaviors in a timely manner.
• Develop and train HVAC team members applicable policies necessary to ensure the success of each individual, the team, department, and the university.
Other - 5%
• Other duties as assigned. Example: snow removal, flood remediation assistance, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
• 3-5 years of progressively responsible HVAC/refrigeration equipment installation, repair and maintenance experience which includes a minimum of 1-2 year of supervisory experience; and
• Completion of a technical training program in the repair and maintenance of HVAC/ refrigeration OR,
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Requires an Arizona driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• Greater than five years of supervisory experience.
• Experience working in higher education with an understanding of university facilities and the diverse needs of university customers.
• Experience working on HVAC systems supported from a central distribution system.
• APPA Educational Facilities Professional certification.
• Excellent skills and experience with computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for email and calendar/contact management, as well as TMA or other work order management software.
• Knowledge and experience with BOTH pneumatic and digital control systems.
• Knowledge and experience with control systems such as Alerton, Niagara, Compass.
• Knowledge and experience with Willow.

Driving Requirement
Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Salary
Anticipated salary range is $67,714 - $84,449. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
