Summary As an Electronics Technician, the incumbent will function in a professional capacity to design, install, test, and maintain facility enterprise systems and their ancillary components. These specially designed systems are constructed, assembled, or modified to fill a unique function for the facility through software and hardware applications. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to: Responsible for technical oversight of highly complex electronic and facility enterprise systems that may include, but are not limited to: satellite and entertainment, audio/visual, law enforcement security, nurse call, patient wandering/locating, electronic announcement, temperature monitoring, fire protection, high-level disinfection robots, local area networks, and wireless communications (including their components, and sub-systems). Maintenance activities frequently require the incumbent to exercise extensive knowledge, skill, and creativity to keep electronic and facility enterprise systems operational. Recommend, develop, implement, redesign, reconfigure, or modify operating and maintenance procedures to reduce failures, eliminate hazards, or enhance accuracy and reliability. Responsible for notifying the owning service and the supervisor if they determine equipment or systems should be taken out of service because it is unsafe to operate. Provide technical expertise related to electronic and facility enterprise systems via planning, design, implementation, testing, evaluation, project management, professional consulting and reporting, data mining, and full life cycle management. Project management includes stabilizing the expansion of existing enterprise systems to newly constructed areas under renovation or modernization. Develops the necessary requirements, reviews potential contractor submissions for technical soundness, and provides oversight and technical guidance during installation of electronic and facility enterprise systems which may include directing modifications to equipment and or designs to remediate issues presented by unforeseen site conditions. Consulting that involves entering the information into a format that can be understood by non-technical staff. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, you may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion, and can involve prolonged periods of pushing, pulling, carrying, bending, stooping, crawling, crouching, reading inside of devices, and negotiating cramped working areas. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions. The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. The incumbent will continually handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Some tasks involve climbing and working in high places using ladders or platforms. Circuit repairs also require adequate eyesight and dexterity. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature requiring prolonged concentration. The incumbent will often work under conditions of stress caused by the nature of the mission which involves the well-being of patients and the necessity to meet deadlines.
