**Job Description**
AECOM is currently seeking experienced Field Engineers / Inspectors to support Amtrak's ADA Stations Program. The Amtrak ADA Stations Program (ADASP) is responsible for bringing Amtrak stations into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADASP implements design and construction of infrastructure improvements to provide accessibility to Amtrak’s inter-city rail transportation system. This position will be part of a Joint Venture (AECOM & Jacobs) that is providing staff and services to Amtrak.
**_Construction projects will be at locations throughout the continental U.S.A. The Field Engineer’s work is performed primarily at project locations (on-site approximately 80% of working time) with some work performed remotely, such as report writing and other project documentation (off-site approximately 20% of working time). Repeated trips of one-week or two-week duration to project locations is typically required._**
The Field Engineer/Inspector works directly with the COTR/RE and reports to the program’s National Construction Manager.
**The Field Engineer/Inspector’s responsibilities include:**
+ Provides on-site construction monitoring of several concurrent construction contracts from mobilization through final acceptance of contractor’s work and contract closeout
+ Primary on-site representative for the Contracting Official’s Technical Representative / Resident Engineer (COTR/RE). The Field Engineer/Inspector monitors the contractor’s performance of the work, prepares reports and other documentation of the contractor’s work, and provides technical advice to the COTR/RE
+ Encouraging and supporting a culture of safety on all projects
+ Assuring work is executed in accordance with the contract as well as good engineering and construction practices
+ Being thoroughly familiar with contract drawings and specifications
+ Verifying that the contractor’s work is in conformance with applicable contract drawings and specifications
+ Performing on-site quality oversight inspections of the contractor’s work.
+ Providing written daily inspection reports that document the following on-site activities
+ Safety briefings / toolbox topics
+ Safety incidents
+ Description of work performed by contractor
+ Description of work performed by others
+ Status of the contractor’s work progress
+ Quantities of contractor’s manpower and equipment usage
+ Quantities of installed materials and work performed
+ Quantities of track protection (flaggers and/or watch persons)
+ Deliveries of material
+ Deliveries and removal of equipment
+ Contractor’s QA/QC activities
+ Coordination events or concerns
+ Weather conditions
+ Visitors
+ Problem areas or other pertinent matters
+ Monitoring the contractor’s quality for compliance with the contractor’s approved quality control / quality assurance (QA/QC) plan
+ Documenting deviations from the contract requirements or any performance or technical deficiencies by the contractor
+ Notifying the COTR/RE and he contractor’s superintendent of deviations from the contract requirements or any performance or technical deficiencies by the contractor
+ Verify that the contractor is working from the latest approved contract documents, drawings, shop drawings
+ Prepare Accessibility Survey Assessment System (ASA) forms as work is completed to document compliancy the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
+ Assist with post-construction assessments of the work to verify compliance with the contract and the ADA
+ Retaining all project reports and documentation in the Unifier document control system.
+ Participating in weekly contract progress meetings and preparing meeting minutes to be distributed to all attendees
+ Attending meetings as required which relate to program management, design, procurement, third party coordination, historic preservation, railroad operations, and public outreach
+ Reviewing progress reports from the contractor
+ Inspecting the contractor’s performance of warranty work during the contract’s warranty period.
+ Providing on-site support to the COTR/RE
**Assist the COTR/RE with the following activities:**
+ Managing the contractor’s work and coordinating with Design Manager, operations department, safety department, and engineering department personnel so that the interests of client are always considered
+ Managing the contractor’s work to allow Amtrak, host railroads, third parties and other project stakeholders to continue their on-site operations throughout the project
+ Judging the quantity, quality, fitness, and acceptability of all parts of the work.
+ Interpreting technical specifications and drawings
+ Clarifying the contract scope of work
+ Monitoring contractor’s work for completion within the approved contract time and price
+ Keeping thorough records of actions taken that impact the contractor’s ability to deliver or perform
+ Maintaining contract logs for non-compliance notices (NCNs), change orders, requests for clarification (RFI’s), submittals, and other as needed
+ Conducting quality assurance audits
+ Closing out the contract
**Make recommendations to COTR/RE on the following items:**
+ Accepting work based on specified criteria and testing results
+ Substantial completion and final acceptance of the contract work
**This position may include the following physical activities:**
+ Remain standing for prolonged periods. Frequently move about to accomplish tasks. Alternate sitting or standing at will
+ Kneel, crouch, bend, stoop or maneuver into different positions to take measurements and accomplish visual inspections
+ Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps
+ Walk across uneven terrain. Step over or around physical obstructions
+ Work outdoors in low or high temperatures, precipitation, and wind. Work in noisy environment
+ Reach overhead with hands higher than head and elbow extended 120 degrees or more
+ Carry, lift, push, pull, or move objects up to 20 pounds
+ Grasp hand tools and measuring devices
+ Repeat motions that may include wrists, hands, and fingers
+ Enter data into a computer by means of a traditional keyboard
+ Speak to others accurately and loudly. Hear and distinguish speech and other sounds
+ Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less to read small print and at 20 feet or more to recognize distant features
+ Drive a motor vehicle for up to eight hours in a single day
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ High School Diploma plus 6 years of relatable experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
+ Valid U.S Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
+ Due to the nature of the projects associated with this position a valid US citizenship is required
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or Engineering
+ CCM or PMP Certifications

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $37.00/hour - $62.00/hour.
