About this Opportunity:

As a Junior Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Maintenance team in ensuring smooth operation of equipment in the facility and tasks related to inspection, troubleshooting and repair of equipment in the facility. You’ll gain hands-on experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems in metal sorting, shredding and processing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Preproduction activities include:

• Assist with installation and assembly of industrial equipment
• Help define preventative maintenance tasks and work order requirements
• Observe and assist in writing standard operational procedures and maintenance work permits
• Participate in training sessions on maintenance processes and safety protocols
• Observe in functional acceptance tests of equipment
• Coordinate with the procurement team to initiate and track purchase orders for necessary materials and tools

Postproduction activities include:

• Support maintenance technicians in installing, assembling and maintaining industrial equipment such as pumps, agitators, shredders, crushes, and conveyor
• Observe routine inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and prevent major failures
• Document maintenance activities and follow corrective actions as required
• Provide troubleshooting support to diagnose and resolve issues related to both mechanical and electrical failures.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and test equipment to assess equipment performance and identify the root cause of malfunctions.
• Participate in equipment overhauls and major maintenance projects, learning the technical skills required
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding equipment operation and maintenance.
• Assist with maintaining the facility’s compliance with environmental and safety regulations, particularly related to hazardous materials handling and waste management.
• Follow strict safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, to ensure the safety of personnel while working on machinery and electrical systems.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and inspections.
• Coordinate with procurement to create and follow up on purchase orders for materials and tools required after production activities

Qualifications:

• Current enrollment in a program in industrial maintenance, or relevant certifications
• Basic Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
• Technical training in electrical or mechanical systems, or relevant certifications preferred.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial setting preferred
• Strong willingness to learn and develop maintenance skills.

Specific Skills:

Technical:

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics.
• Basic Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and other machining processes
• Understanding basic electrical troubleshooting activities, motor control systems, PLCs, and VFDs.
• Familiarity with tools used in maintenance and repair tasks

Safety Awareness:

• Knowledge of safety standards and procedures (OSHA, NFPA 70E, etc.) for industrial operations.

Problem-Solving:

• Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting heavy objects, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces.
Teamwork:
• Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues across departments.

Working Conditions:

• This position may require working in outdoor or indoor environments, with exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
• The job may involve shift work, weekend shifts, or on-call availability depending on operational needs.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
