• This position is posted as Sport and Summer Youth Program Manager, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Manager, Recreation.
• Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. With a wide range of offerings including fitness, intramural sports, outdoor adventures, and sport clubs, the department supports student success through active engagement and personal development.

About the Position

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Fitness, Sports, and Special Events, the primary function of the Sport and Summer Youth Program Manager is to provide supervision to all sport and child enrichment opportunities within Campus Recreation. The main function of this position is focused on Sport Club oversight and Summer Camp management administration. This position also oversees 1 Full Time Employee, a Coordinator of Sport Programs, whose job function is focused on the administration of the Intramural Sport programs.

Additional areas of responsibility include the implementation of best practices and industry trends in the coordination and management of a comprehensive program, including Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, and Summer Camp Activities. Primary functions of this position include policy development, risk management reviews, maintenance planning, student staff training, program marketing efforts, program budget and assessment, security, and safety.

Responsibilities Include

65% - Program Management

• Develop, revise, and implement program policies and procedures, assessments, goals and objectives for intramural sports, sport clubs, and summer camp programs that are on the leading edge of national and peer institution trends while maintaining compliance with regulations.
• Provide oversight to a comprehensive sport club program that encompasses up to 35 sport clubs and serves approximately 1000 unique members.
• Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Sport Club Officer Training curriculum for NAU Sport Clubs.
• Guide the Sport Club Council and Sport Club Executive Board on program direction and voting matters, representing the sport club council to the recreation department, and campus community.
• Advise and train sport club presidents on NAU Student Organizations procedures and involvement policies.
• Assist the facilitation of trainings to ensure compliance with Northern Arizona University and Campus Recreation's guidelines as they pertain to day-to-day operations, risk management, hazing, off campus travel, etc.
• Foster partnerships with outside departments and agencies to enhance program quality and opportunities for staff and participants.
• Maintain an updated Sport Club Handbook on a semesterly basis in collaboration with Sport Club Executive Board and the Office of Leadership and Engagement.
• Maintain accurate records of the Sport Club Tier Structure and communicate to club officers about their tier status regularly.
• Coordinate student travel processes to include, transportation, lodging, information for Travel Request, and assist departmental accountant with reconciliation of trips.
• Work with the Dean of Students regarding discipline of sport clubs when necessary.
• Manage sport club reservation requests alongside the Coordinator, Reservations to ensure equitable allocation of space.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of a K-8th grade Summer Camp program from June - August.
• Duties include developing engaging curriculum of activities, planning and implementing a daily schedule; working with external partners to schedule field trips; communicating with parents; keeping accurate paperwork; and ensuring a safe environment.
• Examine how to provide the best programs and services and make the process of registering and engaging adolescents in summer camp as easy and user-friendly as possible for parents and families.
• Provide oversight and direction to the Intramural Sports program through supervision of the Coordinator, Sport Programs.
• Cultivate an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for staff and participants; address patron behavior, concerns, and conduct issues as necessary.
• Continuously develop new programming with potential for revenue generation.

10% - Supervision

• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate 1 full time sport program coordinator
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate summer camp supervisors, and summer camp counselors.

10% - Risk Management

• Implementation of staff training practices that involve standards from American Red Cross in identifying, addressing, and documenting medical emergencies and other incidents.
• On-going staff training to review and manage daily shift reports, incident/injury reports, equipment malfunctions/work orders, and travel documentation.
• Adherence to American Camp Associations (ACA) guidelines and best practices for summer camp programming; including appropriate ratios of camp counselors to campers per age groups.
• Track and manage relevant staff trainings, certifications, and safety/security clearance levels to administer programmatic needs.
• Develop and administer a comprehensive risk management program; including for Summer Youth Programs and serve as a program representative on the department's Risk Management Committee for Campus Recreation.
• Train program area supervisors to assist in the management of staff and ensure compliance with all university, state and local ordinances.

10% - Fiscal Management & Assessment

• Assist with creating, monitoring, and managing operating budget for Sport Programs and Summer Youth Programs.
• Collect program financial data, monitor budgets, reconcile finances, entry fees, forfeits, reimbursements and prepare statistical and financial reports.
• Identify and provide recruitment and fundraising opportunities to recognized sport clubs.
• Order inventory; inspect and maintain equipment and supplies.
• Develop program plans, goals, and student learning outcomes for sport and summer youth programs.
• Assist in development of post-program surveys and assessments to gather and review participant data related to achievement of departmental goals.
• Administer and manage programming software that includes in-person and online transactions for Sport and Summer Camp related to point of sales (IMLeagues and Fusion).

5% - Collaboration

• Participate in university wide committees and work groups to contribute to the advancement of the University's mission.
• Act as a representative and liaison for Campus Recreation and other university departments.
• Participate as a representative of Campus Recreation at university and departmental programs and events.
• Other duties as assigned to support division and departmental vision, objectives, and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• 1 years of management or supervisory experience.
• 2 years of relevant experience.
• CPR, AED and First Aid or obtain within first 60 days of employment.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in related field.
• Program specific nationally recognized certification: CPR, AED, First Aid, Aquatic Certs (CPO, LGI, WSI), Fitness (ACE, AFAA, CSCS, NSCA, other) Outdoors (WFR, WFA, CCFT, ACCT, Captains License, other) Certified Sports Official.

Compensation

Salary range begins at $58,882.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
