Summary These positions may be filled for a six month seasonal period, but can be vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Season: October 2025 - April 2026. Responsibilities Be a successful applicant. Watch this 5 minute video to learn how to create a federal resume. This position provides supervision and oversight and leads the trail crew in the field. Will report back problems and issues to the supervisor. The position provides daily direction and guidance to lower graded employees. Leads at least 3 or more federal employees. The highest level of work led is at the WG-7 level. Major duties are from the following trades: masonry, motor vehicle and equipment operation, and carpentry. Below are further details of duties: Performing complex backcountry trail maintenance and trail structure construction in remote settings for long periods of time. Leading crews in the reconstruction of log check runs, rock and log retaining walls, boardwalks and raised turnpikes/causeways, switchback layout and construction, and revegetation effort. Leading crews in the set up and use of complex rigging systems and the protocols of backcountry work camps. Leading diverse volunteers (Youth Corps, Student Conservation Association, AmeriCorps, Youth Opportunity Center) in assigned trail maintenance and construction projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Government housing is available. You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. If selected for a position/location required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise (Screen-Out) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instructions If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS). If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility. The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM. Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations. Physical Effort: Works in the field in a variety of weather conditions, including temperatures above 100 degrees and below freezing with windy and rainy conditions possible. Incumbent will be required stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Incumbent will be required to hike up to 10 miles a day with a up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside where dirt, spray, fumes is present. Also required to work in extreme weather conditions and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequently exposed to the potential risk of broken bones, shock, burns, cuts and bruises.
