    In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more.     **What You Will Do**

    + Under supervision of a Senior Geologist, complete logging of drill samples, geologic mapping, sampling and assist in the completion of resource block models.

    + Perform logging of core and reverse circulation drill cuttings.

    + Perform geologic mapping of surface and underground areas.

    + Assist Senior Geologist with the interpretation of all geological data (e.g., rock type, alteration and structure), assay, and mineralogical data into internally consistent cross sections and level plans.

    + Work with a team of Geologists in the completion of computerized resource block models that meet corporate modeling standards.

    + Prepare and update drill hole database, maps of deposits and other exploration records.

    + Perform rock chip sampling or soil surveys.

    + Managing assessments, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and remedial implementation for cleanup of complex sediment sites within terrestrial, river, lake, or marine environments;

    + Conducting work under CERCLA, USACE and state regulatory programs;

You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. Students who successfully complete the internship program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent appointment or a term (1-4 years in duration) appointment without further competition. Qualification Requirements This internship is geared toward students majoring in one of the following areas of study: computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. For task examples 1-5, the level of work typically would have involved receiving clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use.
