    Job Purpose

    The Environmental Specialist manages all environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives within Cleanpart semiconductor precision cleaning facility. This role ensures adherence to strict Federal, State and local regulatory, compliance and customer standards related to chemical handling, wastewater treatment, emissions, and hazardous waste management. As well as the guidelines established by Mitsubishi Chemicals in the areas of Air, Water, and Waste Management, Emissions Reduction, and Project Management.

    Specific duties include: effectively manage the sites environmental requirements, improve compliance with regulatory requirements, reduce environmental incidents, improve training regarding regulatory requirements, improve communication with staff; design, test, & implement an electronic data management system to improve environmental reporting; improve permitting opportunities, and reduce cost.

    Principal Accountabilities

    **Duties and Responsibilities:**

    1. Manage and interact with all site functions and tenant responsibilities as necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, policies, standards, procedures, and mandates.

    2. Provide technical and regulatory guidance to all areas of the organization related to Air, Storm Water, Wastewater, Sustainability, and Waste Management, including the use of existing treatment and disposal infrastructure.

    3. Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports as required by state and federal regulations and service contracts related to Air, Water, Waste, and other environmental requirements.

    4. Manage all environmental management activities (permitting, compliance assistance, compliance investigations, regulatory requirements, etc.) associated with all areas. This includes the waste storage areas, waste shipments, outfalls, emissions points, fugitive emissions, etc.

    5. Coordinate with Site personnel to respond to any alleged violations of state and federal regulations as required.

    6. In conjunction with Operations management, help control the operational cost of environmental activities (waste minimization, recycling/reuse, waste profiling, waste disposal, sampling, reporting, consulting services, etc.)

    7. Develop, update, and maintain the site environmental plans, including but not limited to: Environmental Action, Hazardous Waste Contingency, Hazardous Waste Reduction, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Management of Sustainability (MOS) plans along with associated inspections and reporting.

    8. Coordinate the response to all site spills or loss of containment events, including notifications, reporting, and cleanup activities for any hazardous material or oil release.

    9. Plan, coordinate, and manage all waste management activities for all site turnaround and project events to effectively manage and mitigate the creation of waste materials, prevent the introduction or abandonment of unauthorized waste material, dispose of waste and to minimize related cost.

    10. Environmental Policy Development: Developing, implementing, and updating Environmental and Waste Water Treatment (WWT) / Scrubber system policies, Hazardous / Non-hazardous waste procedures, and guidelines.

    11. Supervises WWT technician(s) to efficiently and effectively process WWT / Scrubber system in safe way to ensure compliance with discharge permit requirements.

    12. Support and manage wastewater treatment / Scrubber system and coordinate sampling, testing, and reporting for discharge compliance.

    13. Oversee chemical usage, storage, and disposal in compliance with hazardous materials regulations (RCRA, TSCA).

    14. Conduct environmental and safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments in cleanroom, WWT area and chemical processing areas to identify and address potential hazards, risks and ensure compliance with Environmental and Safety standards.

    15. Serve as main interface with regulatory agencies and participate in site inspections or audits.

    16. Track and report environmental performance metrics such as chemical usage, waste reduction, water and energy consumption.

    17. Train staff on environmental procedures, WWT/Scrubber procedures, chemical safety, spill response, hazardous materials handling and sustainability initiatives. Provide general training and education programs for all employees on environmental and sustainability topics, including, emergency response and environmental stewardship etc.

    18. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Developing and implementing emergency response plans and procedures for WWT/Scrubber and hazardous waste. Conducting drills and training sessions to ensure employees are prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.

    19. Sustainability Initiatives: Promoting sustainability practices within the organization, such as reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and enhancing environmental stewardship.

    20. Contractor and Vendor Management: Ensuring that contractors and vendors comply with the organization's environmental policies and standards. Conducting environmental evaluations and audits of contractors and vendors.

    21. Budget Management: Managing the WWT/Scrubber and Environmental budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support environmental initiatives and improvements.

    Knowledge / Skills / Experience

    **Qualifications:**

    + Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

    + 5+ years of experience working with Federal and State waste management regulations and permits (State of Arizona and City of Phoenix experience preferred)

    + 5+ years of experience in an environmental role within a chemical processing, or semiconductor industry including possessing good analytical and organizational skills to manage multiple activities, projects, and personnel.

    + Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly in hazardous waste management, wastewater, and air emissions.

    + RCRA and DOT certification for shipping hazardous waste required.

    + Good communication, documentation, and analytical skills.

    + Knowledge of Safety Management systems and Process Safety

    + Good problem solving skills – knowledge of root cause analysis methods.

    Clean Harbors is seeking an **Senior Lead Field Chemist** (CleanPack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. Responsible for the successful management of daily lab pack jobs, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, large projects/jobs and assisting the CleanPack Coordinator in administering on-the-job training for new hires. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites and are responsible for assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections and lab moves. **This is a customer facing position, working at customer sites daily** . The Environmental Field Chemist are (NOT) laboratory-based Chemist.

    **This position will support the entire Southwest District and require travel a couple of days every month.**

    **Key Responsibilities:**

    + Ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner

    + Responsible for the safe and compliant execution of large lab pack jobs/projects nationally.

    + Responsible for the site training of new hires, mentoring and providing input for performance reviews for those employees assigned.

    + Adhere to and enforce field standard operating procedures as well as helping to define new standard operating procedures as needed and understand customer specific disposal options/special packaging requirements; Develops an understanding of permit requirements.

    + Execute projects/jobs according to budget, conducting site safety meetings and managing project/jobs according to site safety plans.

    + Ensure customer satisfaction by communicating customer needs and requests to the CleanPack Coordinator and provide onsite customer service while ensuring quality control; Understands customer specific disposal restrictions/special packaging requirements.

    + Act as a liaison between the plants and field to help solve packing problems, define new guidelines, update procedures, etc.; Provides feedback to management when standard operating procedures need to be reviewed or revised.

    + Accumulate and record accurate billing information to ensure proper billing to customer.

    + Act an as backup to the CleanPack Coordinator on an as needed basis.

    + Prepare computer generated packing lists, labels, manifest, and land disposal restriction notifications

    + Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance

    + Inspect storage area and drums for leaks or spills

    + Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations

    + Collects, segregates, and properly packages waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance

    + Executes Jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations including fortune 500 companies

    + Responsible for final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT and company policies

    + Conducts projects/jobs according to site specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans

    + Understand customer specific disposal restrictions/special packaging requirements

    + Sample and profile of new waste streams or any waste needing analytical testing

    + Ensures drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance our company’s policies and procedure

    + Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules

    + Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements

    **Required Qualifications:**

    **Preferred Qualifications:**
