    Description

    The Senior Resilience Meteorologist plays a crucial role in developing and implementing comprehensive risk management strategies for Amazon. This position is responsible for building resilience frameworks and capabilities that enable the organization to effectively address various threats, hazards, incidents, and crises that could impact Amazon's personnel, operations, assets, and brand integrity.

    The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in providing both tactical and strategic meteorological support. This knowledge will be instrumental in shaping Amazon's policies, preparedness measures, monitoring systems, risk assessments, mitigation strategies, response protocols, recovery plans, and post-incident analyses. The ability to synthesize and communicate complex, technical, and sometimes incomplete information is essential.

The role demands flexibility to adjust workload based on shifting priorities and the capacity to lead effectively in high-pressure situations. The Senior Resilience Meteorologist must be prepared to brief departmental leadership and make critical decisions under time constraints.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of autonomy, exercise discretion when handling sensitive information, and apply robust business acumen and data analysis skills to identify and address challenges proactively. Experience in developing resilient crisis management programs in complex environments is crucial, as is the ability to educate and empower teams in implementing these processes.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive meteorological threat analyses using advanced forecasting techniques and data systems to identify and monitor potential impacts to Amazon's global operations, incorporating government alerts and maintaining sophisticated tracking dashboards

    • Serve as meteorological subject matter expert provide real-time analysis and actionable recommendations during dynamic weather events

    • Use expertise to analyze operational vulnerabilities across diverse geographical regions to identify long-term risks and opportunities for enhanced resilience strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders, and influence policy and procedures.

    • Create and maintain comprehensive resilience frameworks and standards that enable risk identification, assessment, and communication, establish clear operational thresholds and escalation protocols, translate Amazon security policies into practical applications, and define performance metrics with timelines

    • Partner with stakeholder teams to develop and implement innovative crisis management solutions, support planning and response efforts across business units, establish clear goals and objectives, and manage critical relationships and communications

    • Perform analytical deep dives to identify root causes of incidents, determine impacts, and implement corrective actions and additional mitigations

    • Build organizational resilience by training and educating teams on weather-related risk identification, emergency preparedness procedures, crisis management protocols, and response to events that may impact associates, operations, assets, and brand

    Basic Qualifications

    - Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field.

    - 6+ years experience in meteorology/Hazard forecasting and risk analysis.

    - Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

    - Excellent written and verbal communication

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Security risk management industry certification (ASIS CPP, CSMP), etc.

    - Software development/coding experience (Python, R, etc.).

    - Familiarity with risk, crisis management, business continuity, and data management platforms

    - Project management experience.

    - Experience implementing and improving processes, policies, and SOPs.
