**Responsibilities**
The Medical Technologist contributes to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by the accurate performance and reporting of laboratory testing procedures on blood and body fluids. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required.

**Qualifications**
For MT: Bachelor's degree in a health related field required.
For MLT: Associate degree required. Recent graduate from approved MLT school is minimum experience required. Two to four years experience as medical laboratory technician preferred.

Strong organizational skills and problem solving capabilities required. Experience as a Technologist and good computer skills preferred.

As an **Internal Medicine** **Veterinary Technician** , you are a liaison between our internists and our clients regarding patient histories, care instructions, lab results, patient updates, and other topics as requested by the doctors. You will be involved with client contact through phone calls, email, and in person conversations. Additionally, you will be assisting with endoscopic and ultrasound procedures, filling prescriptions, taking x rays, and obtaining lab samples. Strong anesthesia and phlebotomy skills required.
**As an Internal Medicine Veterinary** **Technician,** **you will:**
+ Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
+ Calculate all medical math.
+ Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia
+ Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in all peripheral veins.
+ Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
+ Set up and assist with ultrasound and radiology procedures.
+ Set up and assist with endoscopic procedures (GI, nasal, urinary, airway). Clean and maintain equipment following procedure.
+ Discharge Internal Medicine patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as insulin injection, SQ fluid and feeding tube demonstrations.
+ Set up and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures which may include:

The summer student patient care associate is a student enrolled full-time in an AVMA accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine/veterinary medical doctor training program or veterinary technician/technologist/nursing training program. Students will be employed as temporary associates for 8-12 weeks, between May and September. Students will be immersed in specialty and emergency medicine to augment the medical knowledge and technical skill that they have acquired thus far in school. The summer student patient care associate will assist the doctors, technicians, and advanced patient care associates with all aspects of patient care and client communication.
**As a Summer Student Patient Care Associate, you will:**
+ Possess knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and abbreviations
+ Able to appropriately and safely restrain canine and feline patients
+ Able to perform a basic physical examination to collect patient vital signs
+ Triage patients over the phone and in-person
+ Collect a basic history from a client
+ Ability to input patient data into themedical record system. Document treatments administered, treatment adjustments per the attending doctor, and communication withthedoctor, client, or primary care veterinarian.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Must be a full-time student enrolled in an AVMA accredited DVM/VMD or veterinary technician/technologist/nursing program.
+ Must be available for a minimum of 8 weeksand a maximum of12 weeks.
+ No prior emergency or specialty medicine experience is required. However, animal experience is preferred.
