Understands the theory behind laboratory methods and operates various pieces of laboratory instrumentation used to obtain test results. **Responsibilities**
Individual works closely with the Supervisor and assists in the oversight of work processes and work groups within the laboratory. Is responsible for relaying communications between management and staff. Assists with problem resolution to technical and personnel issues that surface in daily laboratory operations. Leads team building effort and fosters an open and creative environment within the laboratory. Attends meetings and makes recommendations to streamline workflows between the laboratory and the clinics to better serve patient care. Assists with the validation, optimization, and implementation of highly complex state of the art technologies in a rapidly growing laboratory. Serves as subject matter expert on laboratory procedures, and contact person for troubleshooting of assays and instrumentation. Shares responsibility for training and competency assessments of laboratory staff, and collaborates with supervisor on performance management and quality issues. Maintains the laboratory in a constant state of readiness, and in compliance with all applicable accreditation standards.

**Qualifications**
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field required. One to two years experience as Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory scientist) is required.
**Additional Skills and Qualifications:**
Good organizational, communication, problem solving, and computer skills.
**License or Certification:**
Certification from AMT or ASCP in Medical Technology, Med Lab Science or a related specialty preferred upon hire and required within 12 months.

Position Summary:
Performs clinical testing in assigned areas of the laboratory to aid in the diagnosis of disease, estimation of patient status, and determination of lifestyle and genetic effects on health. Specializes and/or assumes responsibility for a specific section of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:
*Minimum Education*
Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science
OR Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological science
OR Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with documented chemistry and biology hours that satisfy CLIA requirements for high complexity testing personnel.OR
Have previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under § 493.1489;
(4) On or before April 24, 1995 be a high school graduate or equivalent and have either -
(i) Graduated from a medical laboratory or clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS; or
(ii) Successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).
