We're looking for a dedicated Field Technician Maintenance to join our team. You'll perform a range of duties, including repairs, troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance at AMH properties, ensuring the functionality and condition of our homes while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities:

+ Provide troubleshooting support for water heater, plumbing, garage door, irrigation, and electrical issues.

+ Perform various home repairs, including carpentry, drywall, roofing, and fencing tasks.

+ Ensure HVAC systems are operational and perform system tune-ups.

+ Maintain all equipment in a clean, orderly, and functional condition.

+ Update and complete mobile work orders received from the maintenance center within the given timeframe.

+ Regularly engages with vendors and tenants.

Requirements:

+ High School diploma/GED is preferred, and an Associate degree or technical training certification is a plus.

+ At least two years of experience in Residential/Property Maintenance or related field is required, or five years of experience in lieu of education.

+ A valid driver's license required.

+ Familiarity with basic hand tools and power tools is necessary.

+ Experience with an Apple iPad and HVAC are preferred.

+ Universal EPA Certification or HVAC Type II Certification required in applicable states.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary.

+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety methods (OSHA) is required.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, and problem-solving skills are essential.

+ You should be able to multitask, exercise discretion and independent judgement, work in a team environment, pay close attention to details, and adapt to a changing environment.

+ Proficiency in English, basic measurement and calculations, and the ability to physically maneuver 300 lbs are necessary.

+ You should be comfortable lifting/carrying: 75 pounds to waist height, 75 pounds to shoulder height, 20 pounds above the head.

+ You should be able to operate a motor vehicle and climb ladders (A-frame and extension ladders) to perform tasks such as tree trimming and removal of debris and leaves from roof gutters.

**Company Overview**

Battelle manages and operates the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) program, which is solely funded by the National Science Foundation. A 30+ year project dedicated to understanding how changes in climate, land use and invasive species impact ecology, the observatory’s scientists and engineers are collecting a comprehensive range of ecological data on a continental scale across 20 eco-climatic domains representing US ecosystems. Our teams use cutting-edge technology, including an airborne observation platform that captures images of regional landscapes and vegetation; mobile, relocatable, and fixed data collection sites with automated ground sensors to monitor soil and atmosphere; and trained field crews who observe and sample populations of diverse organisms and collect soil and water data. Once structures are completed, a leading-edge cyberinfrastructure will calibrate, store and publish this information. The Observatory includes more than 500+ personnel and is the first of its kind designed to detect and enable forecasting of ecological change at continental scales.

**Job Summary**

We are currently seeking a Lead Field Technician-Botany. This position is in Tucson, AZ.

Lead Field Technicians supervise and perform seasonal and periodic sampling of physical, chemical, and biological data at one (1) to five (5) field sites, while exercising good judgement and decision-making abilities to interpret protocol requirements. Lead Field Technicians are assigned an area(s) of primary responsibility within the scope of data collection: botany, soils, entomology, mammalogy (except Puerto Rico and Hawaii), limnology (except Hawaii), or instrumentation.

Field observations and collection are conducted using approximately 30 different protocols and multiple Standard Operating Procedures with varying schedule requirements based on local ecosystem and field conditions.

Individuals are responsible for their own housing and transportation to primary work location.

**Location**

From the iconic saguaro cactus stands of the Sonoran to the mesquite scrublands of the Chihuahuan, the Desert Southwest (Domain 14) offers a diverse range of desert and mountainous landscapes to explore. Data from the NEON field sites will help scientists better understand the impact of human disturbances and climate change on these unique and fragile arid ecosystems. NEON sites in the Desert Southwest Domain are managed from our Tucson, AZ office.

**Work Environment and Physical Demands**

The work involves walking, hiking, prolonged standing, bending, and kneeling. Heavy items, equipment and packs up to 40 pounds, must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. Field work includes exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, rough and variable terrain, toxic plants (e.g., poison ivy, hogweed), stinging and biting insects, and wildlife hazards. Instrument maintenance involves performing work on instrument towers ranging in height from 24 feet to 300 feet, which includes ascending and descending multiple flights of stairs. Driving off-road in 4WD vehicles is required for most field sites.

**Work Schedule and Travel**

Work schedules are typically 8-10 hours per day but can occasionally be 12+ hours per day, including split shifts (off in the middle of the day), starting before dawn and/or ending after dusk, and weekends depending on the work assignment. The ratio of field to lab work is about 75% field and 25% office and lab duties.

Frequent overnight travel (e.g., semi-monthly for 3-4 nights) is required.

**Major Responsibilities**

+ Perform and supervise plant phenology, diversity, productivity, and biogeochemistry data collection following established, standardized field, lab, and shipping procedures.

+ Record data accurately and completely; perform data Q/C checks and resolve errors in collaboration with staff scientists.

+ Provide training, instruction, and technical guidance to seasonal field personnel.

+ Perform additional field and lab procedures as assigned. This may include abundance, diversity, and phenology of organisms including small mammals, ticks, mosquitoes, ground beetles, and soil microbes; stream channel morphology, aquatic organism abundance and diversity, biogeochemistry, seasonal climatic and hydrologic changes, and riparian phenology; operations and maintenance of in-situ meteorological sensors, soil sensors, water quality sensors, data loggers, IRGAs (infrared gas analyzer) and other gas analyzers used to measure CO2, water and energy flux.

+ Support external research projects approved through the Assignable Asset program.

+ Participate in public outreach events and engagements (e.g., site tours, career fairs, community science workshops and conferences).

+ Ensure work hazards are identified and mitigated and support a culture of safety.

+ Follow all permitting requirements and assist with permit reporting and renewals.

+ Report issues with implementation of procedures and coordinate resolution.

+ Assist with routine administrative duties, special projects and other duties as assigned.

**Key Qualifications**

+ High School Diploma.

+ Undergraduate upper-level coursework in ecology, forestry, environmental or related scientific field.

+ One (1) – two (2) years of ecological field sampling or related experience.

+ Willingness to perform maintenance and field sampling outdoors in sparsely populated, remote locations, with distances ranging from 1/2 hour to 6 hours from the Domain office. Overnight travel, hiking off trail, and wading in water are typical in most locations.

+ Willingness and ability to work varied field operations schedules (up to 12+ hours per day), including split-shift, part-time, pre-dawn early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

+ Ability to hike off trail, long distances, on uneven terrain, at remote locations, in all types of weather, carrying packs weighing up to 40lbs. Ability to walk, hike, stand, bend, and kneel for prolonged periods.

+ Willingness and ability to learn and perform procedures and methods outside of the primary responsibility.

+ Ability to work on instrument towers ranging in height from 26 feet to 240 feet and at altitudes of up to 11,000 feet (depending on assigned Domain), involving the ability to ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs.

+ Ability to withstand exposure to fumes, dust, and noise. Field work may require frequent exposure to toxicodendrons (e.g., poison ivy and poison oak), ticks, biting insects and other natural hazards.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

**Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Previous NEON program field experience will be highly considered.**

The Opportunity
This position will be part of our talented and growing Electrical and I&C team in the West Regional Design Center. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Perform field inspection, testing, design and construction coordination for electrical, instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater utility clients. 
Provide troubleshooting and field investigations to support client needs. 
Develop knowledge of client design standards and assist others in interpretation and application 
Witness or perform instrument calibrations and loop checks 
Inspect of electrical equipment such as Motor Control Centers (MCC’s), Switchboards, Panelboards and Industrial Control Panels of various voltages. 
Review contractor electrical and instrumentation shop drawings . 
Develop P&ID’s and I/O lists
Develop control panel details, schematics and loop drawings

Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of experience in the design, installation and startup of electrical, instrumentation and control systems in an industrial automation environment. 
Experience in the water and wastewater industry is highly desirable. 
Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematic drawings and control panel wiring drawings.  
Experience reading and interpreting electrical single line diagrams and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s). 
Experience with AutoCAD. 
Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC, NFPA-70) and NFPA-70E standards for industrial and commercial installations. 
Experience performing electrical equipment inspections and data collection for performance of Arc Flash and Shock Hazard Risk Assessments per NFPA 70E. 
Experience with Bluebeam Revu design and construction markup and collaboration software is desirable but not required. 
Experience in PLC and HMI programming desirable but not required. 
Minimum Qualifications

**Overview**

ABM Industries is seeking an Electrical Field Test Technician (NETA 2,3,4 or equivalent) to join our Electrical Power Services team. The Electrical Field Test Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient installation and testing of electrical power distribution equipment for customers in the assigned territory. In this role, you will travel approximately 25% of the time, working both independently and with a crew, and handle the performance and management of routine, moderately complex, and complex tasks and projects, record-keeping, evaluation of test data, and preparation of field service reports. Additionally, Level 3 and 4 Technicians will be responsible to coach, mentoring, training, developing, and supervising Level 1 and 2 Trainees and Assistants.

**Essential Functions**

+ Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data on electrical systems.

+ Supervise Trainees, Assistants, and Technicians in the completion of electrical testing duties.

+ Guide, mentor, train, and supervise Level 1 and 2 certified NETA Trainees and Assistant Technicians.

+ Observe testing, assign work on projects to capable technicians, ensure testing of similar items is consistent across test technicians

+ Track project scope completion and communicate ABM and Customer Management

+ Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.

+ Maintain, test, and repair transformers and related equipment.

+ Test and calibrate solid-state and electromechanical relays.

+ Perform relay calibration and power metering.

+ Conduct low and medium-voltage motor control center and contractor testing.

+ Start-up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes.

+ Test and commission protection and control systems on high voltage substations.

+ Sample and interpret insulated fluids.

+ Complete Job Hazard Analyses including but not limited to arc-flash and shock analyses

+ Review and submit timecards, expense, and project reports.

+ Document test results and complete field reports.

+ Rotate emergency on-call duty.

+ Maintain strict compliance with regulatory laws

Primary Responsibilities

+ Practice safe job practices for repairing equipment

+ Use technology (laptops and tablets) comfortably

+ Maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment
