Fleet Truck Mechanic
Job Description
The Fleet Truck Mechanic is responsible for the efficient repair and maintenance of all heavy diesel engines as well as other tractor and trailer equipment that allows the transportation department to deliver the products needed to maintain the inventory of our many Bashas’ supermarkets. Entry level truck mechanics work second shifts (Shift start at 1:30 pm to midnight). Our repair shop is open Sunday through Saturday. Sometimes extra hours are required as work and business needs dictate.Some Job Responsibilities include:
Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, and brake and electrical systems.
Diligently performing all work in a manner that contributes to the financial best interest of Bashas’.
Performing preventative maintenance on tractor engines and equipment.
Making quick repairs for drivers requesting work on their tractors to be completed prior to starting off on scheduled deliveries to stores.
Inputting all repairs completed and parts used into RTA fleet management system software.
Meeting and/or exceeding all established Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Five years experience in all phases of the repair and maintenance of heavy diesel tractors (Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine experience preferred).Ability to:
Consistently demonstrate a mechanical aptitude towards the maintenance and repair of diesel engines and tractor equipment.
Pass a drug and background screen as well as a DOT physical.
With all shop team members and drivers, remain helpful, tactful and courteous at all times.
Work energetically and independently to accomplish tasks and to meet goals and objectives with little oversight by shop supervision.
Work in an environment that includes: petroleum liquids and fumes, loud noises, dust and fluctuating temperatures.
Communicate well with team members and supervisors, including the ability to explain problems and communicate solutions to those problems.
Listen well, taking the time to use the information presented by others to help resolve work problems and issues.
Problem solve, analytically using deductive reasoning to resolve problems and challenges.
Lift and maneuver at least 60 pounds.
Use hands and digits to repair machinery.
Read instruction manuals, databases and company reports
Use computers, keyboards and computer software to run reports and input work completed and supplies used.
