Summary Serves as the Technical and Administrative Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) Operator Supervisor at the Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant (NIWTP), Nogales Field Office (NFO), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division, Operations Department of the United States Section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC). Operates and controls the NIWTP processes to ensure proper and safe operations in accordance with the State of Arizona and Federal regulatory requirements. Plans and directs weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for employees. Monitors NIWTP operations budget and provides justification to management if not executing within the established budget. Identifies employees' training needs, and initiates recommendations to provide necessary training. Position Summary: The Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and collaborative professional for the City's Wastewater Collections, in the position of Utility Worker. Under general supervision of the Wastewater Collection Supervisor(s), the ideal candidate will join a team of professionals performing Wastewater Collection daily operations & maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will possess excellent physical and technical skills to support team goals and objectives.

Position Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent and experience comparable to one-year full time journey level construction, maintenance, or equipment operation. Must possess a valid Arizona Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or must obtain within six (6) months of hire. Must possess an Arizona Grade I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification or obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Tasks: Inspect, maintain and repair the sanitary sewer collection system to ensure safe and efficient operation; inspect sewer lines, manholes, and lift stations; operate a variety of complex sewer line cleaning equipment, including hydro-cleaners and other related equipment to remove debris from sewer lines and wet wells; utilize hand tools, jack hammers, whackers, digging bars, shovels and other related tools or equipment as required; inspect sewer line cleaning equipment, power tools, hand tools, vehicles, and other large equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation; perform confined space entries; provide quality customer service to address citizen complaints or problems, provide requested information, and/or take the appropriate measure to ensure an expedient resolution of citizen satisfaction; adhere to all safety policies and procedures; assume responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.

**Description**

Semi-skilled employees will support the Operations and/or Maintenance groups and be trained to operate industrial processing equipment safely. Employees will work under minimal supervision in environments where the primary objective is safe production.

Gilbert has two Water Treatment Plants; our North Water Treatment Plant is located at 2865 E. Guadalupe and our San Tan Vista Water Treatment Plant is located at 3695 E. Ocotillo Rd. Our current vacancy is located at our North Water Treatment Plant.

The Water Treatment Plant Operator reports to the Water Treatment Plant Utility Supervisor. The primary function of a Water Treatment Plant Operator is to operate the water treatment plant including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system or manually. Conduct minor plant and equipment maintenance including general housekeeping and provide assistance to maintenance staff. Perform laboratory analysis and jar test to determine optimum chemical dosages. Additionally, the Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for keeping log books, lab books, lab reports, midnight daily total reports, inspection reports, backwash logs and updating ozone database.

The individual selected will operate and monitor water treatment plant systems using DCS and SCADA computer systems, conduct visual plant inspections, monitor plant operations and processes, ability to work with and around treatment Chemicals in a safe manner, detect problems to ensure proper operation and make process decisions as deemed appropriate. Operators also assist in maintenance and repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment and machinery as necessary. Additionally, we train new employees in the operations and maintenance of Two Surface Water Treatment Plants utilizing the latest in treatment technology focused on continuous quality improvement.

+ Candidates for a Level III Operator must possess the following requirements:

+ High School Diploma or GED.

+ 4 years or more of technical training beyond high school in water treatment.

+ 2 years of experience in public sector water distribution system and 4 years of experience in water treatment.

+ Grade 3 Water Treatment Certification and a Grade 3 Water Distribution Certification at the time of hire or promotion.

+ Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Operator III is $30.15 - $45.23.

The successful candidate must meet the physical standards and requirements for wearing Air Purifying Respirator (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory protection equipment. Must qualify to use protective equipment based on passing a specialized physical examination before hire date and must maintain respirator certification. Work will require climbing portable ladders and entering confined spaces. Operators work varied shifts requiring the availability to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends on a rotating schedule.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.

**What You’ll Work On**

+ Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

+ Preparation; operation; monitoring; documentation of bulk slurries for blending operations

+ Operation; monitoring; documentation of computer-controlled heat treatment processes

+ Operation; monitoring; documentation of computer-controlled blending processes

+ Weighing; documenting; staging, utilizing a computer-controlled weigh system, of batch ingredients

+ Operation; monitoring; documentation of a computer-controlled clean-in-place (CIP) system utilized for manufacturing equipment (i.e. tanks, heat treatment system, etc.).

+ Perform and document product standardization operations (i.e. vitamins, flavors, oils)

+ Receipt and unloading of bulk raw ingredients and CIP chemicals

You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.

**Shift**

**Please note: This is a 12-hour Night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am and allows you to have every other weekend off.**

+ **Week 1: Mon - OFF, Tues - OFF, Wed - 12 hours, Thurs - 12 hours, Fri - OFF, Sat - OFF, Sun - OFF**

**Required Qualifications**

+ High School Diploma or GED

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Some college or vocational schooling
