+ Prepares surfaces; set-up and operate equipment for painting; mixes coatings per instructions; responsibly uses chemicals and appropriately logs products and containers as required.
+ Performs self-inspection/evaluation of work to ensure required/expected results are achieved per work instructions or guidance.
+ Moves or assists in moving applicable materials, parts, tools, equipment, and others.
+ Accurately records data within production logs and complete related paperwork.
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Minimum of 1 year of painting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent education and experience and High School/GED
+ Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. unaided.
+ Ability to pass respirator test (breathing)
+ Ability to properly wear PPE (respirators) when priming and painting, safety glasses, and face shields

Employees are required to maintain a clean and safe work environment. The use of PPE (personal protective equipment) such as; safety glasses; hearing protection, steel-toed or reinforced shoes and gloves, face shields, etc. may be required while performing work in certain operations requiring additional PPE. Candidate s face must be clean shaven for the proper wear of respirator. Candidates must be able to pass all requirements set forth by OSHA for the proper wear of an air purifying respirator. Candidates are subjected to any occupational health industrial hygiene testing as determined by the company. Incumbent may be required to work with various chemicals, including acetone, MEK, mineral spirits, epoxy primer and polyurethane paint. The position is in the production facility and involves sitting, standing, walking and lifting for long periods of time, up to 10-12 hours per day. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, however may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, balance, reach, grasp. We adhere to a non-smoking work environment and a drug-free workplace. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, with the ability to adjust and focus. GCU Facilities manages and services all university-owned property. By the development and maintenance of the GCU campus and surrounding areas, the GCU Facilities team aims to support and ensure the accomplishment of the university’s mission. By working creatively and collaboratively, the Facilities team fulfills the needs of the university by successfully managing resources while delivering excellent customer service.
Grand Canyon University is currently seeking fulltime Facilities Painters. This role would be responsible for performing skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures.
Schedule: Monday- Friday & Tuesday - Saturday 7am-4pm
Pay: $20
What you will do:
+ Performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tools, and method to be used; following a plan, layout, sketch, or schematic for the project or an established color scheme; mixing and matching pigments, stains or varnishes to the required color, tint and/or texture; assembling, or building and installing scaffolding, materials, and equipment as required by the scope of work; and using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, and related painting tools.
+ Completes assigned painting projects with quality workmanship by preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, scrappers, paint removers and chemicals, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster or other fillers, applying paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel (as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
+ Restores painting work sites to their original condition at the completion of work by removing scaffolding, painting cloths, tarpaulins, and masking tape used during the project, returning furniture and equipment to their proper location, setting up equipment that had been dismantled, and cleaning any paint splatters from surfaces, furniture or equipment.
+ Practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition, oiling moving parts, cleaning and servicing tools and equipment as directed or specified in the operator's manual, and returning damaged tools and equipment for repair or replacement.
+ Provides technical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement painting shop tools and equipment by being knowledgeable of the capabilities of various types of equipment and recommending the purchase of painting tools and equipment that meet the needs of the paint shop.
+ Reduces the likelihood for liability regarding the University's compliance with federal regulations by complying with policies, laws, and regulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to painting.
+ Contributes to an accident-free work environment by complying with operator's instructions for the use of power sprayers and tools, wearing protective equipment such as filter respirators, goggles, hearing protectors, back supports, and work gloves, reporting incidents of unsafe work activity to supervisors, and following standard safety precautions during work.
+ Contributes to the overall success of the Facilities Maintenance by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What you need:
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent.
+ Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
+ Minimum 2 years successful experience in the painting trade.
+ Must have the physical strength and capability to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds independently as well as push/pull equipment on carts, climb stairs and walk long distances across campus for extended periods.
+ Must be able read drawings, space plans or blueprints with good spatial recognition.
+ Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with team partners.
+ Willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays as necessary.

+ Adhere to Bombardier General Work Requirements (Factory, Shop and/or Hangar positions).
+ Comply with environmental health, safety policies and procedures; participate in 5-S activities and perform all work in a safe and timely manner.
+ Perform surface preparation on aircraft and component parts.
+ Apply primer, topcoat and final spray
+ Polish painted surfaces for finished appearance.
+ Inspect, perform touch-up and polish painted surfaces for a finished appearance.
+ Install sealant and erosion tape.
+ Performs and documents all work performed per appropriate manuals and regulations as required.
+ Layout aircraft to customer specifications.
**How can you thrive in this role?**
+ You typically have a minimum of one (1) year of painting experience (i.e. aviation, automotive or marine).
+ You provide satisfactory results on Pulmonary Function evaluation in order to obtain respirator certification.
+ You have formal vocational training or equivalent.
+ You possess customer service and aviation work experience.
+ You possess basic PC skills.
+ You have basic knowledge pulling maintenance manuals and IPCs from computer.
+ You have basic knowledge of regulations dealing with transportation of hazardous materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following, other duties may be assigned:
+ Accurately maintain records of labor time, parts used, and work accomplished.
+ Responsible for general building maintenance repair including but not limited to the repair/replacement of bathroom door hardware, ceiling tiles seats, furniture, HVAC, plumbing, light electrical, roof and field assistance.

Qualifications

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
PAINTS A VARIETY OF SURFACES UTILIZING VARIOUS PAINTING TECHNIQUES. POWER WASH
SURFACES, HANG DRYWALL.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans and prepares surfaces for paint application using spray, brush and roller techniques, make repairs to various surfaces prior to painting.
Determines appropriate painting technique (spray, brush, roller, etc.) for application to a variety of surfaces.
Determines what is appropriate given the area that is to be painted (i.e. – not using spray paint when children are in the vicinity.)
Rigs scaffolding and other structures from which to paint. Runs the bucket truck when necessary to complete the job.
Prepares and mixes materials such as paint, varnishes, epoxies, stains, Stucco Patch and other coatings.
Preps, sands, tapes, seals and finishes furniture and other surfaces. When necessary, move furniture to Paint Shop for completion.
Installs and points up drywall using a variety of techniques. Match existing texture.
Paints lines for athletic courts, parking lots and school playgrounds, including painting games such as hopscotch.
Completes work order forms to indicate time and materials used.
Apply 3 coat finishing surface to ADA access ramps. Follow ADA standards in painting parking lots, making handicap van accessible.
Power wash or use chemicals for graffiti removal, reseal brick/concrete walls.
Cleans and maintains painting equipment and tools.
Identify and report hazardous materials, i.e. lead based paint, asbestos to supervisor.
Spray paint furniture as required
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Three years of experience preferred (journeyman level competency) in various painting techniques or completion of an accredited training program in the trade.
Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate and work well with staff and the general public.
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona drivers license.
B. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 75 lbs. up to 75 yards without assistance;
Ability to climb and/or work from ladders routinely.

This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment and systems.
